Reversi Othello
Outflank opponent discs on an 8x8 grid to flip them to your color. End the Othello match with the majority of discs to win against smart AI.
📖 How to Play & Game Overview
Place your disc so that it traps one or more opponent discs between your newly placed disc and another disc of your color. Trapped discs flip over!
Core Game Rules:
- Played on an 8x8 board starting with 4 center discs (2 Black, 2 White).
- Every valid move must "outflank" (bracket) one or more opponent discs in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line.
- All bracketed opponent discs flip to your color.
- If a player has no legal moves to outflank, their turn is passed.
- The player with the most discs of their color when the board is full wins.
Winning Strategies & Tips:
- Claim the Four Corner Squares: Corner discs can NEVER be outflanked or flipped for the rest of the game! Securing corners is the #1 winning key in Reversi.
- Avoid C-Squares and X-Squares: Never play on the squares immediately adjacent or diagonally touching an empty corner, as this allows your opponent to claim the corner on their next turn.
- Maximize Mobility: In the early game, keep your disc count low and restrict your opponent's move options to force them into bad corner-yielding moves.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Why are corner squares so powerful in Reversi?
Corner squares are permanently stable—they can never be surrounded or flipped by the opponent, anchoring entire edges of permanent stable discs.
What is the "Mobility" strategy in Othello?
Mobility strategy involves making quiet interior moves that leave you with many legal move options while reducing your opponent's legal moves down to zero.
